A Practical Industrial Fan Maintenance Checklist

Most fan failures are preventable with a simple routine. On a regular schedule, check bearing temperature and lubrication, inspect the impeller for dust buildup, wear and cracks, verify belt tension and alignment on belt-driven units, and confirm mounting bolts and the guard are tight. Listening and feeling for unusual noise or vibration each shift catches many problems before they escalate.

Periodically, measure vibration and airflow to confirm the fan is still performing to its duty point — a gradual fall in flow often signals a dirty impeller or a system blockage. Keeping the balance and run-test report from delivery as a baseline makes it easy to judge whether readings have drifted. Holding a few key spares turns an unplanned breakdown into a quick planned swap.
